This is the default screen of the editor. It is very similar to the Map Window used in the game and many of the buttons have the same or similar functions (see section 2.5.9 in the manual for details). However, many of the buttons such as the Move button and Set Unit HQ button have slightly different functions because they are used on this screen for game set up. The button that is unique to the map screen is the Drawing Tool.
Pick Draw Type. This button activates the Drawing Tool, which is used to paint terrain on to the map. (See the drawing tool for more details)
System Options. This button allows access to the Preferences window, which is used to save games, access the combat simulator, change map appearance, show map labels, and change sound defaults. (See section 2.5.10 in the manual for more details.). The editor has one extra preference that is only available for the first turn, the Combat Sim button, which allows combat simulations on the first turn by the first player to test whether the modifications to the combat system in a scenario works they way it is expected to. After the first turn of the first player, the simulator is no longer available. (See combat simulator for more details.)
Make New Unit. This tool is used to create a new unit. Just click on a hex, press the button and a new empty unit is added to the highlighted hex.
Hide/Show Units, As in the game, this button makes the units on the board appear or disappear so that the underlying terrain can be revealed.
Zoom In. As the game, this button zooms the main map in and may change the appearance of the icons
Zoom Out. As in the game, this button zooms the main map out
Spread out/Stack. As in the game, this button is only active in zoomed-in mode, which is activated by the Zoom In button. It allows a stack in all hexes to be spread out for easier inspection of individual units.
These buttons are only activated if a unit has been selected.
Move Unit. This unit allows the player to move the unit anywhere on the board the user wants. Unlike during the game, there is no movement point restriction.
Set Unit's HQ. This button allows the player to set the unit's HQ just as in the regular game. Unlike during the game, there are no penalties for changing the HQ.
Loss. This button allows the player to change the default percentage of losses a unit will take before retreating.
These buttons are only activated if a producing location has been selected.
Set HQ of Location. As in the game, this button allows the user to set an HQ to receive the production of the location.
Set Production of Location. As in the game, this button allows the user to set which items will be produced by the location.
